As if the blog-hype would let anyone forget Snakes on a Plane opens Aug. 18, now film buffs can send personalized phone call from that flick’s star, Samuel L. Jackson, reminding others when the movie hits theaters nationwide. New Line Cinema has teamed up with audio technology company VariTalk to deliver promotional messages recorded in Jackson’s booming voice. “I’m here today to make sure you go see a movie that holds a special place in my heart,” the message begins. “That’s right, I’m talking about Snakes on a Plane…You don’t want to mess with me on this one because I will come after you!”
Bad promotional ploy or ingenious marketing? Here’s what the people are saying:
“If there ever was a voice to be followed, it’d be Sam Jackson’s.” — alldumb.com

“The second I realize it’s an automated message, I hang up. You should too. If whoever calls doesn’t have the decency to be on the phone when they call, that’s insulting and offensive. I don’t care if the voice is Samuel L. Jackson telling me about Snakes on a Plane or Winona Ryder telling me she wants to plane on my snake. If it’s a recording, it’s a waste of my time.” — ZachsMind, metafilter.com

“The call is fantastic. The one I sent to my boyfriend was customized to tell him to stop pimping his truck (he drives a big red one) and playing with funny money (he works at an investment firm) and take his girlfriend Kristin to see Snakes on a Plane Aug. 18.” — topazpartners.blogspot.com
