Perhaps he’s over hearing “Lust for Life” being used to hawk family packages on cruise lines. Maybe it’s time to reclaim the punk crown.
Whatever the motivation, Iggy Pop is back with the Stooges and working on their first album since 1973. The as-yet-untitled effort is due out next year.
While Pop and the Stooges are currently tucked away in “a little cottage in the boonies on a little river,” they’re letting in producer Steve Albini to helm the project and Coca Cola-loving Jack White to produce a few tracks, according to Billboard.com.
As far as the project’s direction, Pop told the site that the band “experimented a lot,” but that after short “get-togethers” every few months, “it started to sound more and more like us.”
One place where fans shouldn’t expect a change is in Pop’s attitude. “I’m still the showoff in the group that gets all the attention,” he said. “Everyone has their role. It’s pretty much the way it was in high school.”
Though dates have yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that the Stooges plan to hit the road on their first full reunion tour.
