Having played a residency at New York’s Apollo Theater, Gorillaz will now journey to the east for a German opera company’s production of Monkey Journey to the West.
Head gorilla and former-Blur frontman Damon Albarn will write the music for the show in collaboration with the German opera company, Staatsoper, according to Yahoo Music. The show is based on a book by 16th century Chinese author Wu Cheng’en and will center on the metamorphosis of a monkey into a human. It will also feature animation by Gorillaz’ animator, Jamie Hewlett.
The show is set to premier in Berlin on July 31 2007. So, you know, book your flights now.
