Superman Goes Emo

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…emo Superman?

The Man of Steel will get an emo/pop-punk makeover on the upcoming Sound of Superman a tribute to Superman, that features songs by the Receiving End of Sirens (read more), the Academy Is… (read more), American Hi-Fi, Nightmare of You (read more), Paramore, Plain White T’s, Jack’s Mannequin, Maxeen, the Sun and the Films, according to Billboard.com.

Due out May 23 on Rhino, Sound of Superman features covers of Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman” (the Films), Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” (Paramore), Stereophonics’ “Superman” (TREOS), the Flaming Lips’ “Waitin’ for a Superman” (Nightmare of You), and R.E.M.’s version of the Clique’s “Superman” (The Academy Is…). The album will also include original tracks by several artists, some of which are yet to be announced.

The new Superman film, Superman Returns, follows in theaters on June 30, just over a month after the compilation is released.
