Compilation Revisits Grunge Roots

Almost 15 years after Nirvana’s Nevermind hit stores, Livewire is releasing a compilation of influential grunge music called Sleepless in Seattle: The Birth of Grunge. The album includes the lesser-known forefathers of the grunge movement, including Green River (featuring future members of Pearl Jam and Mudhoney), the Melvins, Malfunkshun, Screaming Trees, Babes in Toyland, and Mudhoney. “These bands are the unsung heroes,” said Livewire president Colin Cobb, executive producer of the project. “Although they didn’t become multi-platinum megastars, they went on to influence and form some of the biggest, chart topping groups in music history.” The Birth of Grunge hits stores Feb. 7.
