Bowie Rocks the Fashion: Now Spandex-Free!

David Bowie has always been fashion forward — quite literally, if you remember the bugle in his spandex costume from Labyrinth — and last night at the Fashion Rocks concert, Bowie’s stylishness proved it has staying power. While performing with band-of-the-moment the Arcade Fire, Bowie wore a perfectly pressed suit and sported highwater trousers. The concert was put on by Conde Nast Media Group to celebrate the beginning of Fashion Week in New York and featured the designs of fashion mavens-cum-rock stars like Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, and J. Lo. “Music stars have always been fashion icons” Richard Beckman, the CEO of Conde Nast Media told AP. “Think of the Beatles coming off the plane, the mods of ‘the new romantics,’ Madonna, David Bowie.” No kudos to the Arcade Fire’s fashion sense: They were one of the few acts performing who were seemed to escape any post-event coverage. Tune into Fashion Rocks tonight on CBS at 8 P.M., EST, to see if they ended up on the cutting room floor.
