It was a busy week in SPIN.com-land, as we deployed our fearless rock'n'roll vagabond Zack on the road with Radiohead; hosted a stream of the entire new LP from Heavy Heavy Low Low; and debuted tracks from the Verve, Mercury Rev, and School of Seven Bells, among others. What? On May 2, The Slip—Nine Inch Nails’ eighth full-length since 1989—landed on the band’s website with little fanfare, and no option to pay. “This one’s on me,” a message from Trent Reznor read, his giveaway serving as the culmination of a career-long battle with what the alt-icon saw as the music industry’s unfair exploitation of consumers.

New Nine Inch Nails Album Out on CD July 22

The Slip, Trent Reznor's latest record -- originally offered only as a download -- will arrive this summer on CD with a bonus DVD.

After originally dropping as only a free download, Trent Reznor and his industrial/alt-rock act Nine Inch Nails' new record The Slip will arrive July 22 as a limited-edition CD/DVD.

Nine Inch Nails, 'The Slip' (The Null Corporation)

In pop music's future, there will be no such thing as days off.

"Once I start, I cannot stop myself," Trent Reznor sings in "Discipline," the most conventional tune on the unconventionally released The Slip, which hit the Internet in May with a price tag even a Radiohead fan could love. ("Thank you for your continued and loyal support," the Nine Inch Nails mastermind wrote on his site.
