Seasick Steve, 'Dog House Music' (Bronzerat)

Dog House Music
Critical Mass

by Rob Wohl

This sixtysomething bluesman, who reportedly has jammed with both Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain, spent the last decade or so busking around Europe, playing classicist blues on guitars he built out of spare parts. His own songs are stuffed with references to old dogs and "that flophouse down on Main Street," and he inexplicably broke through in England a few years ago with this album, which reached No. 37 on the U.K. charts, and is just now being released in his native country. It might be a revelation for devotees of the blues, but for the rest of us, it's mostly just a rip-roaring advertisement for spending a night drinking with Seasick Steve.
