The veteran English singer's latest features fewer next-gen cameos than her last several studio albums; guests here include fellow old-timers Lou Reed, Dr. John, and Wayne Kramer. The guitar-heavy result embraces experience without fetishizing it. Singing her own songs (as well as tunes by Allen Toussaint and the Gutter Twins), Faithfull sounds more relaxed -- if no merrier -- than she has in years. "Gotta get my head together," she sings over the laid-back bar-band boogie of "No Reason." Consider it done -- at least for now.
