In Sonny "Skrillex" Moore's final viral clip for OWSLA -- now confirmed as the DJ/producer's new label venture -- the mischievous OWSLA urchin, a.k.a. the Dubstepchild, again makes an appearance. This time, while Skrillex, headphones on, rocks to a pleasantly distorted electro-house groove (looking even more like a post-apocalyptic Corey Feldman), the Dubstepchild creeps up, trailing a large stuffed dog, which he then hoists up to cold-cock Skrillex. Why? Hard to know exactly, but as prehistoric punks SSD once observed, "The kids will have their say."
OWSLA, named after a military caste of rabbits in the legendarily intense 1970s children's fantasy novel Watership Down, also will function as a production company, manned by Skrillex manager Tim Smith, as well as Biz 3 Publicity owner Kathryn Frazier and publicist Clayton Blaha. The label's first releases will be from Bristol, U.K.-based post-dubstep producer Koan Sound, North Carolina electro-house upstart Porter Robinson, D.C.-based singer/songwriter Alvin Risk, and San Francisco progressive-house mavens M Machine (formerly Metropolis).
Skrillex is currently touring Europe, including stops at Belgium's Pukkelpop festival, Ibiza's Amnesia superclub, and Liverpool's Creamfields dance-music fest, before returning to the States for New York's Electric Zoo on Sept. 3 and the ACL Music Festival on Sept. 17. New Skrillex music is apparently pending on Big Beat/Atlantic.
