Tree is another of Chicago’s rising rap stars, emerging from the city’s drill-music scene with a soulful mix of smoky melody and thoughtful rhyme — he calls it “soultrap,” for what it’s worth. Last year’s Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out made good on the promise of his early offering Trillin’, and now he’s set to let loose a new short-player for the new year. Courtesy of Scion AV, we’ll get The @MCTREEG EP on January 21. For now, we’ve got “Like Whoa,” a meditative track that finds the inimitable gruff-voiced artist at the top of his game.
