In his 30 years as singer-guitarist with Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore has only released two solo albums, 1995's Psychic Hearts and 2007's Trees Outside the Academy. But he's currently prepping his third record without the band for release next year, and he's tapped Beck to produce and play on it. The title will be Benediction.

Moore flew out to Southern California to cut the album in Beck's home, along with violinist Samara Lubeski (who played on Moore's last album) and harpist Mary Littimore. Expect the record to have a rootsy, homespun vibe similar to Trees Outside the Academy.

"Beck sings and plays a little bit on it," Moore told Philadelphia Weekly. "Samara and Mary both play on it quite extensively and very, very beautifully. Beck really put them through the paces."

The pairing of Beck and Moore makes sense. The two have been friends since the early nineties, were both signed to Geffen Records, and, most recently, collaborated on a cover of Yanni's Live at the Acropolis for Beck's Record Club project.

Moore also teased details about upcoming Sonic Youth music. After performing gigs in London and Chile early next year, the group will hit the studio to cut new music. But don't expect it to come out any time soon. "We're laying low and preparing to record some secret sides," says Moore.
