The Wytches recently cast a spell over audiences at South By Southwest, earning a slot among the 40 Best Things We Saw at SXSW 2014. "At their best," SPIN wrote, "the band recalls the gnarlier moments of '60s garage-punk a la the Nuggets compilation, and they've got the power and stage presence to pull it off." While down in Austin, frontman Kristian Bell also found the time to play a quiet solo show for the folks at NPR, who have now shared footage of the stripped-bare gig. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, Bell performed three tracks from the Wytches' forthcoming debut album, Annabel Dream Reader: "Wide at Midnight," "Crying Clown," and "All of My Skin." The outdoor set may be unplugged, short on two members, and light on the band's usual strain of psych-sludge, but the songs still possess a raw potency that can't be denied. Witness the Wytches' magic by watching the 11-minute clip above.
