Lots of musicians tweet--but all that Twitters is not gold.

That's why you'll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we're reading this week--then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: ...while you're at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week's winners:

  • She & Him's Zooey Deschanel
    @therealzooeyd

    Who: She & Him's Zooey Deschanel (@therealzooeyd)

    Why You Should Follow: Though she's probably better known for her acting--starring in quirky movies like Elf and (500) Days of Summer--this multi-talented leading lady has a considerable amount of indie cred as well. She's one half of a successful folk-pop duo (She & Him, with singer-songwriter M. Ward) and one half of an indie power couple (with hubby Ben Gibbard, of Death Cab for Cutie fame).

    Until this past week, she only had a few tweets, all news updates, but now she's on a roll, tweeting back and forth with celeb friends Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) and Nicole Richie (@nicolerichie), posing thought-provoking questions ("who is parson brown? Why would I dress up my snowman as him? not that I have a snowman, but if I did..."), creating new holidays (like "Besties Day," a day for best friends, which she decided would be held every year on Dec. 7), and sharing some of her favorite albums, recipes, and L.A. coffee shops with the world. She also posts links to her Tumblr, Zooey's Miscellany, where she writes what are essentially addendums tweets (and posts the occasional baby panda picture as well).

    Best Tweet of the Week: "Sometimes I wish I was the everly brothers' sister. Then I could sing with them for real."

  • Yeasayer
    @OddBlood

    Who: Yeasayer (@OddBlood)

    Why You Should Follow: This Brooklyn-based experimental rock group made our list of the Top 40 Albums of 2010 with Odd Blood, a record that also provided a perfect Twitter handle for the band. After all, much of what they tweet could be categorized as "odd"--strange, trippy videos from the '80s (like this clip from The Max Headroom Show), links to TED talks about synthetic life, depictions of wildlife food pyramids, and bizarre questions like "Trepanation: does it work?" (for the record, trepanation is an alternative medicine approach to well-being that involves drilling a hole in the skull). They also post plenty of news updates about upcoming shows and releases and poke fun at the music journalists who write about them ("List alert: our 6000 albums of 2010 coming very soon!").

    Best Tweet of the Week: This definitely odd Discovery Channel video of two praying mantises mating.

  • Diddy-Dirty Money
    @iamdiddy

    Who: Diddy-Dirty Money (@iamdiddy)

    Why You Should Follow: The Artist Formerly Known As Puff Daddy, then Puffy, then P. Diddy, then Diddy is now called Diddy-Dirty Money, and he's getting ready to drop a new album, Last Train to Paris, that's already gotten a lot of buzz for featuring some rather unusual guest stars (Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and fashion designers Marc Jacobs and Isaac Mizrahi have speaking parts on the album). His Twitter stream is an endless barrage of all-caps shout-outs (most of them to Ciroc vodka, which he represents) and Last Train to Paris hype ("LETS MAKE "LAST TRAIN TO PARIS" A TRENDING TOPIC! #LTTP"), but he also makes time to interact with fans ("Send me the names of your favorite strip clubs!!!") and post little bits of rapper-turned-business-mogul wisdom ("Everyday is a new chance-a new opportunity-a new gift from GOD. Make it GREAT"). While unabashedly self-promotional ("Do yall know what day my album comes out???? Lol") and sometimes annoying, he's still one of the most followed people on Twitter, with more than 3 million followers, and he's got enough charm to make up for his excessive use of the caps lock key.

    Best Tweet of the Week: "How yall feeling out there people?????!!!! Did I tell you I love you today! Spread love! Hate is for suckas! GO!!!"
