It’s hard to shine in the often-redundant realms of emo rock land, but when it comes to the craft of hearty punk anthems, Ben Weasel is a master. An icon among the bleeding, beating hearts of America’s youth and other like-minded rock stars, the former Screeching Weasel frontman and his new backing band the String Iron Quartet deliver These Ones Are Better, a new album hailed by many as a rebirth of sorts for the veteran songwriter. On “Give It Time,” snappy guitar riffs and swift percussion compliment Weasel’s rejuvenated and sensitive demeanor. The catchy, harmonic track also features the youthful musical kick of Alkaline Trio guitarist Dan Andriano, as well as Mike Kennerty and Chris Gaylor from the All-American Rejects. These Ones Are Better is available now via Mendota, Weasel’s new digital-only imprint.
