Regina Spektor Returns, New Shins Song + More

  • HBO has tapped Loudon Wainwright III, Martha Wainwright, Nellie McKay, and others for a soundtrack to its second season of Boardwalk Empire. Regina Spektor has also contributed a tune — a cover of "My Man," originally made famous in the 1920s by actress Fanny Brice. Stream Spektor's version over at Entertainment Weekly. The CD will be released on September 13.

  • After debuting a cover of David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" at their comeback show earlier this week, the Shins have started to unveil new material live. James Mercer and Co. performed the untitled track at an August 9 show in Bend, OR. "It's a slow song," he says of the gorgeous, roots-tinged rock ballad. "But it's good, we figure.   • The Rapture have announced a 20-date fall tour in support of their next album In the Grace of Your Love, due out September 6. The trek kicks off on September 22 in Boston, MA and wraps up on October 21 in Philadelphia, PA. The New York punk-funk crew will also play at warm-up show on August 20 in Brooklyn, NY.   • Drake has revealed that neo-soul act The Weeknd will be featured prominently on his next album Take Care, due out in October. (The Weeknd mastermind Abel Tesfaye recently jointed the rapper at his OVO Festival in Canada.) "He's one of the greatest artists I've ever heard," Drake says.
