Featured in the Breaking Out section of Spin‘s December issue, Bay Area skate disciples the Pack take mad pride in their kicks. The Pack’s head-bobbing, effect-heavy tune “Vans” knocks the hip-hop standard of sporting Nike sneakers, instead giving a gratuitous shout out to the classic California lifestyle represented by shoe company and song namesake. The Pack say the old school kicks are “punk rock shoes so they get real dirty,” and they later specifying their color preference (“coke whites”) and praising the ease of usage (“They slip in and out real easy, like blunts”). Blurring the line between California surf dude and Sac-town thug, the Pack’s Lil Uno, Young Stunna, Lil B, and Young L have carved out a niche for themselves in the ever-evolving hip-hop game.
