New Song from the Curtains

While on hiatus from Deerhoof’s mad touring schedule, Chris Cohen recorded and self-produced Calamity (out Oct. 24), his quirky new full-length under the moniker the Curtains. Like the songs of his former band, “Green Water” is a strangely beautiful and purposefully clumsy track that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense lyrically. Cohen told SPIN.com the song was recorded in his parents’ bedroom and inspired by a recent accidental trip into a swimming pool. There’s little meaning he’ll glean from the track, though, as he wants listeners to bring their own interpretation to his music: “I don’t want to limit people’s imaginations when they listen to the song,” Cohen said. The Curtains’ tour kicks off today.
