Midnight Juggernauts
Who? Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Midnight Juggernauts were born as a duo between Vincent Vendetta (keys/vocals) and Andy Juggernaut (guitar/vocals). After releasing two EPs -- 2005's Raised by Wolves and 2006's Secrets of the Universe -- they added drummer Daniel Stricker to augment their infectious big-beat live sound. Full-length LP, Dystopia, arrived down under earlier this year through the band's own Siberia label and the Juggernauts spent the rest of 2007 touring with Justice; plans for a domestic release on a yet-to-be announced label is slated for early spring.
What's the Deal? Dystopia will help folks get a jump on their Best of '08 lists, furthering dance music's indie rock crossover. Like Justice but without the religious foot-massage, "Into the Galaxy" soars through space like a synthesizer symphony, a dance floor throwdown with four on the floor and an eye on the heavens. The Daft Punk-inspired splatter-beat of "Road to Recovery" screams of a thousand angry droids smashing re-gifted Tiffany glassware against a steel chandelier, corralled by smooth prog-like vocals baked under electric light. An instant dance party, at any hour.
Fun Fact: A former filmmaker, Vincent Vendetta directs all the band's music videos.Â
