During this weekend's Voodoo Festival in New Orleans, artists stopped by the American Express® ZYNC ZONE, to chat with SPIN about their summer festival experiences and much more, among them Janelle Monae-- watch our video interview, plus performance footage below!

Monae just flat out does not believe in getting old.

"I'm never going to get old, as long as I live I'm going to be young at heart and I'm going to dance and sing and be young all the time," the Kansas City born singer said."I don't believe in getting old because I believe in all the things children believe in.

While Monae herself doesn't believe in getting old, she does believe in death and loves the way the city of New Orleans acknowledges the end of one's life.

"I love that they celebrate when people pass and I love the horns and the costumes," she said."Death isn't a sad thing, it's a joyous time and that's what I want to teach my children when they come out of me."
