Iron & Wine’s new Ghost on Ghost album is now streaming in full, below, courtesy of NPR. Sam Beam’s fifth album under the meatless moniker marks a musical scaling back from 2011’s wonderfully broad Kiss Each Other Clean, which featured detours into doo-wop, ’70s A.M. sounds, R&B, and even free jazz. The horn section is still there, and the female backing vocals, too, but the mood is more reserved, colorful yet sidewinding as previously heard on early tastes “Lovers’ Revolution” and “Grace for Saints and Ramblers,” whose lyrics give the album its title. Brace yourself for a mellow, soulful ride through the lush and rolling range that Iron & Wine calls home.
