Modern Hut is the pet project of Joe Steinhardt, co-founder of New Jersey’s Don Giovanni Records and ex-guitarist for defunct New Brunswick punks For Science. Later this year, Don Giovanni will release Modern Hut’s debut full-length, Generic Treasure, produced by Screaming Females frontwoman Marissa Paternoster. First, though, comes lead single “History,” a plain-spoken strummer that pairs thrift shop-quality sonics with cutting observations. “When I woke up I saw a nation,” Steinhardt sings, “Of overnight sensations / Where irony was currency.”
