Gwen Stefani says that her new single and video, “Cool,” is inspired by her old relationship with No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal. Stefani told MTV News that one of her producers on Love.Angel.Music.Baby, Dallas Austin, wanted to cover the same subject matter as No Doubt’s “Simple Kind of Life,” a song which is also about Stefani and Kanal’s break-up. So Austin and Stefani co-wrote “Cool” about a love relationship that morphed into a best friendship.
