"I've got friends on the other side," Feeding People's frontwoman and founder Jessie Jones howls on "Other Side," a highlight from her Southern Californian psych outfit's latest, Island Universe. That's no throwaway line. In fact, Jones is as in touch with her home's acid-splashed history (and its heroes) as fellow Orange County native Ty Segall. And while Island Universe calls for less head-banging than Segall's most recent work, it's a hypnotic, similarly concussive sprint through the late '60s that's been punched up in all the right places by producers Hanni El Khatib and Jonny Bell of Crystal Antlers. Hear it for the first time in full:
