Over the past couple of weeks, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken over Facebook news feeds worldwide and brought awareness to the neurodegenerative disease otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. After being challenged, participants have 24 hours to dump a bucket of frigid water on their head or else donate $100 to the ALS Association. Celebrities as wide-ranging as Justin Timberlake and Robert Kennedy's widow Ethel Kennedy have participated in the challenge thus far, and this weekend Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready as well as "Weird Al" Yankovic have joined in.

As Consequence of Sound points out, McCready joined in Friday afternoon and nominated the rest of Pearl Jam. The always socially conscious Vedder then took up his own bucket Saturday and nominated Bruce Springsteen, longtime friend and actor Tim Robbins, as well as, strangely, Niall Horan of One Direction.

The chart-topping Mandatory Fun singer was nominated independently of the Pearl Jam dudes, but he aimed high with his own challenges, calling on the Dalai Lama, the Pope, and Barack Obama, who has already said that he will donate money to the charity. As of press time, the other two have yet to respond.

To date, this whole promotion has raised $4 million for the ALS Association, compared to $1.2 million last year.

Watch Vedder's video above, as well as McCready and Yankovic's below.
