"Austin never disappoints me," said an elated Jesse "Boots Electric" Hughes from the stage Tuesday night at Stubb's, one of the Texas capitol's premiere venues, as his band the Eagles of Death Metal opened the night for headliner the Hives. And Hughes, in turn, never disappoints an Austin crowd, or any crowd for that matter, since he's known as a rocker who delivers every time.

"I want to see all the ladies dance. In fact, who wants to come up here? You?" he said pointing out someone in the audience. Seconds later, the lucky girl was onstage feverishly grooving along to the band's hit "Don't Speak (I Came to Make A Bang!)" while the crowd sipped their Lone Star beers and rocked to the party-on riffs and pounding drum beats.

Through their 16-song set, the band played such songs as "Cherry Cola," and "Speaking in Tongues" -- and even peppered the set with tunes off their forthcoming album, Heart On. Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age drummer), who filled in for Eagles co-founder and hard rock heavyweight Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age frontman), added extra flare as he banged away, making for one electrifying night.
