DOWNLOAD: Awesome Metal from Converge!
Boston, MA, metal heads Converge have captured the destructive force of a wrecking ball in the song… and it rocks!
With "Axe to Fall" (download below), the title track off their latest album, out October 20 via Epitaph, this foursome smash, crash, and destroy with foot-stomping appeal: Like a dropping guillotine, a screeching guitar riff falls into a cacophony of heavy guitar distortion, swelling bass, breakneck drum fills, and the hardcore screams of frontman Jacob Bannon.
The quartet have been making music for nearly 20 years, and it shows: They have a reputation for groundbreaking musicianship -- but, still, they sound anything but old. Guitarist Kurt Ballou's deft fretwork is matched with Ben Koller's pile-driving double-bass pedals in a sound that will pummel listeners like an anvil to the head -- and that's a good thing! Converge are dark, heavy, and don't look be easing up anytime soon.

My most anticipated album of 2009. HOLY CRAP.
This will be the best metal album of the year, i have a sneaky suspicion
sorry, nope. That will be "The Great Misdirect"
uhh...BTBAM are a good band, but not anywhere near Converge...not even close, not by a longshot duder!
amazing
It's going to be the best hardcore album. They still label themself as punks, so please don't call them 'metal'. ;-)
doesn't matter what they label themselves as. it isn't metal end of.
Does this sound like Heartache off the last album to anyone else?
I'm still looking forward to it more than any other crap that's come out this year.
I thought the same thing, especially with the short blast beats thrown in here and there
I thought the exact same thing. Good call.
They don't actually clarify what genre of music they create. They label it as "aggressive".
sounds like metal to me
since 1989 CONVERGE pioneers of everything you listen to. from your post hardcore to your post metal. they did it first <333
and will never give up. they are deff a hardcore band. with metal influence
This song sounds alright. I want less metal and more punk feel. I do like the new stuff. And I am anticipating this album. Cverge one of my all time favs.
know your history...they may sound metal with very low end tunings but this is a punk/hardcore band through and through
Converge completes me.
anyone else think Nate kind of looks like Pedro from napoleon dynamite in that picture?
ehh..sounds like converge. im much more excited for new BTBAM.
and yes...he totally looks like pedro in that picture
To the person who said The Great Misdirect is going to be great, I am sorry, but I'm sick and tired of Colors, and I know BTBAM has found their niche, but I'm not one for it.
greatest band ever........................
I've been waiting to hear the actual version of this song for so long! I watched that video of them playing it in the studio like a hundred times. Just pre-ordered the LP today. Stoked for the new Doomriders too.
nate has said in an interview that converge is very much a hardcore band and that that distinction is important to him. that said, when a band of this stature begins to circulate outside of its home scene, confusion and pretentious "clarification" will always happen.
eff this ish! listen to When Forever Comes Crashing!
My jaw literally dropped when that second riff came in. Holy fuck this album is going to rule
rock n rock'ish feeling !!! Ben Koller's drumming has a nice feeling to it !!! looking forward to this record.
lol@the great misdirect
two tracks just leaked and they both suck.
it does sound alot like heartache...........
dont care though, cuz im sure converge will come through with another fantastic album. WORD
sounds like... they've settled into a place where they're comfortable writing the same song over and over again, regardless of whether it sounds tired or dated. pretty boring. maybe i'm just old and don't understand anymore. what happened to the daring experimentation of their classic albums? alas it will never be again. however, the huguenots discography, marginalized and unknown as it may be, is an incredible document. kudos to kurt in his early 20's.
I heard Jake Bannon cried and threw a hissy fit at a show because he didn't get a vegan deli tray that he requested
Got something to say?
