DOWNLOAD: Awesome Metal from Converge!

Boston, MA, metal heads Converge have captured the destructive force of a wrecking ball in the song… and it rocks!
With "Axe to Fall" (download below), the title track off their latest album, out October 20 via Epitaph, this foursome smash, crash, and destroy with foot-stomping appeal: Like a dropping guillotine, a screeching guitar riff falls into a cacophony of heavy guitar distortion, swelling bass, breakneck drum fills, and the hardcore screams of frontman Jacob Bannon.
The quartet have been making music for nearly 20 years, and it shows: They have a reputation for groundbreaking musicianship -- but, still, they sound anything but old. Guitarist Kurt Ballou's deft fretwork is matched with Ben Koller's pile-driving double-bass pedals in a sound that will pummel listeners like an anvil to the head -- and that's a good thing! Converge are dark, heavy, and don't look be easing up anytime soon.

Both songs rleased from this album so far are excellent, and I'm certain it'll be a contender for album of the year .
As for what genre they are does it matter? In their own words they started off as "hardcore kids with left over Slayer riffs" which says it all. They blend lots of styles across their songs to create a sound that's pretty unique (for example the eponymous track on Jane Doe could easily be classified as doom).

I love how some "older" people thinks its "cool" to only appriciate the older side of bands. I think some people are insicure and like to claim that they only like OLDER converge. To the person who writes like this, just know that you are SAD. Its ok to get older.
Sure this may sound a bit like "a song they already wrote" but effin come on people. They have put out SO many allbums. It is normal to sound like yourself. People need to quit whining like sissys.
As for BTBAM new one, I think it will be epic. Again if you want to be that guy you likes only old BTBAM then fine, only listen to the older stuff, but don't knock musicians for moving forward.

This band continues to astonish me. I've been listening to aggressive music -- punk, hardcore, metal, etc. -- for most of my life, and Converge has been consistently making some of the most brutal, intense music out there. Needless to say, I've been looking forward to "Axe to Fall" for quite a while now, and judging by "Dark Horse" and the title track, both equally ferocious, I'm sure this album will undoubtedly sound amazing.

sounds like... they've settled into a place where they're comfortable writing the same song over and over again, regardless of whether it sounds tired or dated. pretty boring. maybe i'm just old and don't understand anymore. what happened to the daring experimentation of their classic albums? alas it will never be again. however, the huguenots discography, marginalized and unknown as it may be, is an incredible document. kudos to kurt in his early 20's.

nate has said in an interview that converge is very much a hardcore band and that that distinction is important to him. that said, when a band of this stature begins to circulate outside of its home scene, confusion and pretentious "clarification" will always happen.
