Though openers, Parisian-born electro-pop act Appaloosa, galloped through Nico-esque numbers without a hitch, Cat Power's Jukebox was on the fritz.<!--break--> Crooning covers from her new album to the sold-out audience at Terminal 5 last night (Feb. 6), Cat Power a.k.a. Chan Marshall had to contend with fits of feedback, prompting one audience member to shout, "Fire the soundman!" Backed by grooves from her Dirty Delta Blues band, Marshall powered on (even poking fun at her old habit of flighty live performances by saying "Bye-bye…just kidding," after her sixth song).

Marshall shuffled up the set in true Wurlitzer fashion, mixing older favorites, notably "The Moon" and "The Greatest," into the list alongside new swingers like James Brown's "Lost Someone." Drummer Jim White's confident rhythm anchored a standout cover of Janis Joplin's "A Woman Left Lonely," and guitarist Judah Bauer (of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) strummed western style into "Silver Stallion," but ultimately, it was Marshall making her mark on these interpretations. During a sad and sultry rendition of Patsy Cline's "She's Got You," Marshall ad-libbed a lyrical lashing, singing: "This feedback is really pissing me off."
