In early March, Beck stopped by SNL to perform the Morning Phase songs "Blue Moon" and "Wave" with an ace backing band that included none other than Father John Misty himself, Josh Tillman. They came back to New York a few weeks later to hit up Fallon, turning in low-key renditions of "Waking Light" and "Say Goodbye." Today, he returned to the tube to play "Blue Moon" for a different demographic — the daytime crowd at Ellen. The smaller stage added an intimacy not found in his SNL rendition of the song. It's not necessarily any better or worse, just a little different. As usual, Beck looked slightly aloof and intense, but he turned what could've been a real downer of a song into a joyful afternoon jaunt. Check it out above, and stay tuned for Ellen's genuine reaction.
