First Aid Kit Tackles R.E.M in Folk Reimagining of ‘Walk Unafraid’

The Swedish sisters offer their folky take for the 'Wild' soundtrack

Maggie Rogers // November 4, 2014

In anticipation of the upcoming Reese Witherspoon movie WildSPIN has the first taste of its wilderness-inspired soundtrack (out on November 10) with First Aid Kit’s take on R.E.M.’s 1998 song “Walk Unafraid.” Percussive finger plucking and delicate cellos sweep through the Swedish duo’s folk reimagining, turning the track into an uplifting ballad that shows off the best of the sisters’ trademark harmonies.

With rattlesnake inspired drumlines and heart-aching howling, the quiet song moves with a lurking intensity that would make even Michael Stipe proud. Based on the best selling novel by Cheryl Strayed, the era-spanning Wild score features classic tracks by Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, and Simon & Garfunkel alongside the Stay Gold sisters. Stream First Aid Kit’s “Walk Unafraid” exclusively below. Preorders for the Wild soundtrack are currently available through iTunes and Amazon.
