Watch COUSINS Play With Food, Make An Existential ‘Mess’

cousins, mess, the halls of wickwire

COUSINS are on the cusp of releasing The Halls of Wickwire, their third album of bold, tastefully fuzzy garage-rock. In advance of the upcoming platter (which is out May 13 via Ba Da Bing! Records) we have the not-so-tasteful music video for anthemic LP cut “Mess.” The song delivers a pleasing blend of raucous guitars, crashing cymbals, and headstrong lyrics. The video, directed by Neal Moignard, offers a series of messy and confusing images: crabs piled high in glass tanks, fruits and veggies stuck in puddles of gelatinous goop, and the track’s existential chorus — “There’s no recipe / Nor a guide / In this life” — written on a mirror in mustard, mayo, and sriracha sauce, respectively.
