Bart Davenport, ‘Palaces’ (Antenna Farm)

Following a side trip into soft-core electronica with his Apple commercial-boosted trio Honeycut, this earnest Oakland, California singer-songwriter returns to mellow retro pop that’s perfectly suited for Sunday-morning pleasantries. But the highlight, “A Young One,” pays tribute to early-’70s Philly soul with such grace that it conjures the slow-jam vibe of smoochy Saturday nights. The rest glides between smooth, if not earthshaking, evocations of bygone country folk, yacht rock, sunshine pop, and other dusty West Coast grooves that make his R&B money shot that much more miraculous.
