The only authorized biography of Joey Ramone won’t be released until the fall of 2007, but already there are plans to turn the book into a movie. Production house Rosegarten Films has secured the rights to I Slept with Joey Ramone, a book written by Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, along with by Legs McNeil (Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk).

Rosegarten also negotiated the rights to Joey’s life story from Joey’s mother and head of his estate, Charlotte Lesher, and will work closely with Ramones Productions for the use of the Ramones’ recordings in the film. “Rory has been a friend of Mickey’s for a long time,” Lesher said in a statement. “He is a caring and thoughtful guy and I’m confident he’ll handle this story with all the sensitivity it warrants.” No word yet on whether Vincent Chase is being eyed for the starring role.
