Goodbye Tomorrow

Who? Phoenix, AZ-based Goodbye Tomorrow — Travis Bryant (vocals/acoustic guitar), David Roat (bass/programming), Matt Grabe (guitar/programming), and Josh Johnson (guitar) — formed in 2003, and they’ve finally released their self-titled EP. The quartet expect to drop their full-length debut early next year.

What’s the Deal? All three tracks off the band’s EP are swirled with moody atmospherics and rich pop melodies. “A Verspertine Haunting” and “Carouseling” are positively poignant chamber pop numbers, and on them, pillowy psychedelic touches are given depth against Bryant’s resonating, buttery vocals and his bandmates’ chiming guitars waiting to erupt with ecstatic abandon.

Fun Fact: Once when heading to a gig in L.A., the band’s trailer axle snapped in the middle of the freeway. “Two police helicopters and a handful of highway patrolmen had to block off a major exit to help us get off the freeway,” bassist David Roat told SPIN.com. “Since the repairs were going to cost more than the trailer was worth, we ended up ditching it in a rich Bel Air community.” JULIA SIMON
