H.E.R. may be best known for her pop-friendly R&B sound, but on Sunday night (April 3) at the 64th Grammy awards, she showed off impressive rock and roll chops during a performance medley with high-profile guests Lenny Kravitz and Blink-182 drummer/producer Travis Barker.

The performance began with H.E.R. (real name: Gabriella Wilson) joined by Minneapolis production legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for her song “Damage,” which was nominated tonight for best R&B performance but lost out to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings.”

From there, she switched to drums before yielding to a shirtless Barker behind the kit and the gold spandex-clad Kravitz on guitar and vocals on the latter’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” H.E.R. and Kravitz traded guitar solos as they walked to a second stage right in the thick of the seated audience on the floor.

H.E.R.’s debut album, Back of My Mind, will vie for the Grammy album of the year trophy later tonight. The artist has an extensive tour on tap this spring and summer in support of Back of My Mind, which peaked at No. 6 on The Billboard 200. She next appears Tuesday at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater.
