The resort town of Mar Del Plata is the latest city in Argentina to ban electronic music events because of concern about the danger of recreational drug use. The decision follows the deaths of two people who attended a New Year's Eve party at a dance club in the town of Arroyo Seco, which is about 400 miles away. At least one death is believed to be related to ecstasy. In April 2016, capital Bueno Aires restricted electronic music events after the deaths of six people at the Time Warp Argentina festival. The measure nearly resulted in the cancelation of a Kraftwerk concert in November. The ban in Mar Del Plata sparked criticism from local lawmakers, but remains in effect. The town has instituted a WhatsApp line for residents to report electronic shows in violation of the prohibition.
