Bjork debuted her new multimedia album project, Biophilia, Thursday night in Manchester, England, where she's holding a three-week live residency. The performance, Bjork's first in the UK in three years, featured a 24-piece female choir, two giant computer controlled pendulum harps, tesla coils, and other unique Bjorkian touches. An all-star lineup of rockers, including The Strokes, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, Wilco, and The Shins, will contribute unreleased songs to Live From Nowhere Near You: Volume Two, a three-disc compilation, out July 19. All proceeds benefit the homeless youth organization Outside In. Rock'n'roll will never be the same again: Former Oasis singer and current Beady Eye leader Liam Gallagher has given up drinking alcohol... at least for now. "I'm having a bit of a break," he said. "I went 20 years drinking and messing about. It's rubbish." On August 23, New York City punk songstress Patti Smith will release Outside Society, an 18-track best-of album collecting her signature songs on the Arista and Columbia labels. All cuts will be remastered by engineer Greg Calbi and Patti Smith band member Tony Shanahan, and the CD booklet will feature brief recollections of each song written by Smith. Director Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) is bringing his latest project, Twixt, to San Diego's Comic-Con conference in July. Coppola will present portions of the film at a panel discussion with its stars, including Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning, and integrate live music by Dan Deacon "to demonstrate the project's boundary-pushing interactive presentation," according to a release. Up-and-coming Bay Area director and rapper Kreayshawn has talked about being picked by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to helm the video for "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," the alt-funk band's first single and video from their August release I'm With You. "I went to film school and stuff, but, like, I never thought it was going to translate into something this big," she said.
