With the Jay vs. Conan vs. NBC kerfuffle reaching a fever pitch, it’s a mighty fine time to be the musical guest on The Tonight Show, especially if you’ve got a new record out. Spoon had that privilege last night — watch them perform “Written in Reverse” below!

Spoon have taken a stripped-down, back-to-basics approach on their just released new album, Transference, paring back the intricate arrangements of 2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and last night’s rendering of “Written in Reverse” embodied that shift.

But will Spoon benefit from appearing on The Tonight Show during its current ratings boom, fueled by Conan O’Brien’s now-imminent departure from NBC’s late-night lineup? Maybe — we’ll see when Billboard’s charts come out next week.
