Round Two: Bloc Party vs. Oasis

A few weeks ago, Oasis’ colossal mouth-running frontman Liam Gallagher offered his opinions, as he so often does, on Britain’s rock sensations Bloc Party, claiming the quartet, fronted by Kele Okereke, is “a band off University Challenge” (a U.K. trivia show for college kids). After allowing Gallagher’s words ample time to settle, Okereke has now fired back with a few scathing words of his own. “I think Oasis are the most overrated and pernicious band of all time. They had a totally negative and dangerous impact upon the state of British music,” Okereke told Uncut magazine. “They have made stupidity hip. They claim to be inspired by the Beatles but, and this so saddens me, they have failed to grasp that the Beatles were about constant change and evolution. Oasis are repetitive Luddites.” Whew, dis!

Fans can catch Bloc Party this spring and summer as they tour the U.S. in support of their latest album, A Weekend in the City.
