New Orleans rapper Mystikal was released from jail last week after spending six years behind bars on sexual battery and extortion convictions.

The 39-year-old MC, whose 2000 album, Let’s Get Ready, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts on the strength of two hit singles — “Danger (Been So Long)” and “Shake Ya Ass” — hopes to get back in the game. “I’m still trying to feel this reality,” he told New Orleans radio station Q93 (via Billboard). “It feels like a dream. Watch how I’m going to shake this world up now.”

Mystikal, aka Michael Tyler, was arrested in July 2002 on charges of rape and extortion. The rapper and two of his bodyguards forced his former hairstylist to perform sex acts in exchange for not pressing charges against her for cashing $80,000 worth of unauthorized checks from Mystikal’s account. In June 2003, he plead guilty to a lesser charge of sexual battery.

While Mystikal initially denied the charges, a videotape of the incident surfaced, forcing him to accept a plea deal.

According to Billboard, Mystikal has written new material, and owes one more album to his former label, Jive.
