Punk Siren Jemina Pearl Unplugs for SPIN!

She’s Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore’s protégé (they did a Ramones cover together for Gossip Girl); she collaborated with Iggy Pop on her SPIN-praised solo debut; and she recently dropped by SPIN HQ to perform acoustic versions of four new songs. Meet Jemina Pearl, former singer of Nashville’s Be Your Own Pet, who is stealing hearts with her high energy, girl-group-meets-punk sound — just watch below!

With guitarist/boyfriend John Eatherly on guitar, the 22-year-old Ms. Pearl (born Jemina Pearl Abegg) performed “D Is For Danger,” “Undesirable,” and “Heartbeats.” She described the latter tune as the “first song John and I ever wrote together for this project,” about her realization that her chest is beating from love… not from snorting lines of cocaine. She also ripped through “I Hate People,” her collabo with the slithering Stooges rocker: “Sorry, Iggy Pop couldn’t make it — but he says hi!”

Watch Jemina Pearl perform all four songs below, then tell us what you think of punk’s new siren in the comment section!
