Having recently severed ties with longtime label Interscope, spastic art rockers …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead have joined forces with indie-friendly Justice Records to launch their own label, Richter Scale Records, and are now polishing off the yet-to-be titled follow up to 2006’s So Divided for release in January ’09.

In a statement, singer/guitarist/drummer Conrad Keely said the new partnership will allow the outfit “to seek the creative freedom envisioned by the founding fathers of our great nation, immune from the tyranny of the corporate ogre.”

Recorded in Austin, TX, the new album was produced by longtime band confidants Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Patty Griffin) and Chris “Frenchie” Smith (Sixteen Deluxe, Smog), and mixed by Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Currently, the six-piece is putting the final touches on the record, and you, fervent fans, can keep tabs on their progress in a series of video blogs posted to trailofdead.com.
