Watch Arcade Fire Cover R.E.M.’s ‘Radio Free Europe’ in Atlanta

If you’ve made it out to any recent stops on Arcade Fire’s Reflektor tour, chances are you’ve seen the band pay tribute to a local hero by covering one of their songs. As Consequence of Sound points out, that string of location-specific covers continued last night in Atlanta with a take on R.E.M.’s “Radio Free Europe.”

As you may well know, R.E.M.’s actually from Athens, GA, which is an hour and twenty minute drive away from Atlanta. But what band–from Georgia or elsewhere—more readily predicted Arcade Fire’s specific brand of arena-ready indie rock. R.E.M. seems, at least, a more obvious cover choice than Prince or Boyz II Men.
