Wynonna Judd has released her first new music since the recent death of her mother Naomi in the form of “Other Side,” a duet with roots-tinged indie artist Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield). Co-written with Wynonna’s husband Cactus Moser, the track was recorded at Wynonna’s Nashville-area farm and its accompanying video shows her and Crutchfield performing and hanging out together.

“In the midst of everything that has happened, I said that I would continue to sing,” Wynonna said. “So, here I am. I met Katie Crutchfield last year and we connected immediately. We recorded ‘Other Side’ in the studio here on the farm and it was one of my favorite recording experiences ever. I’m thankful for the opportunity to sing with the next generation of greatness.”

“Wynonna is an icon and a fountain of wisdom,” Crutchfield enthuses. “Sharing space with her to create something new was really nothing but a joy and an honor. Her spirit inspires me daily and her continued encouragement has meant the world.”

Wynonna had been planning a final tour with her mother as The Judds this fall; the trek will continue with the help of friends and guest stars such as Brandi Carlile, Martina McBride, Faith Hill and Little Big Town. Her sister Ashley spoke on her behalf about Naomi’s death in a May 12 interview with Good Morning America, reading a statement from her that said, “I need to take some time to process and I need this time to myself. I’m not ready yet to speak publicly about what happened so I know you understand why I’m not there today.”

Meanwhile, Crutchfield has summer dates on tap with Jason Isbell and Sheryl Crow in support of her 2020 Merge album Saint Cloud.
