“It’s the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton,” frontman Britt Daniel said of the upcoming record.

Spoon announced their tenth record Lucifer on the Sofa is out February 11, 2022, and dropped its first single “The Hardest Cut” today.

In what is the band’s purest form of rock ‘n’ roll, Lucifer on the Sofa was put together in the band’s hometown of Austin, Texas. As the capitol is known as early music stomping grounds for legends like Stevie Ray Vaughn, frontman Britt Daniel attributes other cowboy rockers as inspiration for the upcoming record. “I spent a lot of 2018 and 2019 listening to ZZ Top,” Daniel said.

Daniel and band member Alex Fischel co-wrote “The Hardest Cut.” Its rhythm guitar opens the track, bouncing like a rubber band ball. With a steady, spur-banging beat, Spoon revel in Link Wray strokes and swing new riffs throughout the track.

Via Matador Records, Lucifer on the Sofa was co-produced by Spoon and Mark Rankin (Adele, Queens of the Stone Age) and is available for pre-order.

“It’s the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton,” Daniel said.
