Cat Power announced her newest record Covers will be released on January 14, 2022 through Domino.

Completing a trilogy of cover-based albums, Cat Power, born Chan Marshall, fully produced her upcoming collection of reimagined tracks by Frank Ocean, Bob Seger, Lana Del Rey, Jackson Browne, Iggy Pop, The Pogues, The Replacements and more. Covers follows Marshall’s 2008 Jukebox and 2000’s The Covers Record.

The upcoming album will close with a strong take on the Billie Holiday-associated standard “I’ll Be Seeing You.” With the loss of Marshall’s close friend and Sun collaborator Phillippe Zdar in 2019, she stated: “When people who you love have been taken from you, there’s always a song that holds their memory in your mind,” Marshall said in a statement. “It’s a conversation with those on the other side, and it’s really important for me to reach out to people that way.”

This is Cat Power’s first album since 2018’s Wanderer. Last night, she debuted another cover, performing Frank Ocean’s “Bad Religion” on The Late Late Show With James Corden.

Coincidentally, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan announced on October 4 his own covers record, Imposter. Can you guess who he is covering? Cat Power. The record’s first single will be Cat Power’s own “Metal Heart,” and will drop this Friday, October 8.

Covers is now available for preorder digitally, and on CD and LP formats through Domino.
