When the first summer music festival lineups were announced early this year, we learned that Diplo and Mark Ronson have a new duo act called Silk City, which takes its name from the Philadelphia diner/venue where Diplo performed as a DJ years ago and allegedly was banned for life. (Surely they’re thrilled.) Today, the duo released their first single “Only Can Get Better,” a feel-good house track with a retro touch.
Speaking to BBC Radio’s Annie Mac, who premiered the song, Ronson said he and Diplo first met back in 2002 and praised the producer’s past work with artists like M.I.A. Ronson also teased an upcoming collaboration between Silk City and U.K. pop singer Dua Lipa, but he didn’t say when we can expect to hear it.
Diplo released his California EP in March, and recently teamed with Sia and producer Labrinth for a group project called LSD. Ronson’s most recent solo release was Uptown Special in 2015, but since then he’s worked on high-profile projects like Queens of the Stone Age’s Villains and Lady Gaga’s Joanne.
