Playboi Carti has released a new song with Travis Scott, titled “Love Hurts.” The sparse, understated track is a look into what’s both charming and maddening about Carti’s music: He doesn’t rap so much as he strings together ad-libs and doubles down on a line or phrase he can repeat over and over until it sticks into your brain. This time around it’s, “Shawty want a rockstar. Ok.” All this comes over a seismic, endless bass line with a synth note that pops like a firework throughout. Travis Scott has a fine verse, but it feels out of place in a song that’s purposely half-thought.

“Love Hurts” is Carti’s first official song since his 2017 self-titled mixtape. Listen to the song below.
