Drake Threatened to Fight an Actual NBA Player Last Night

Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors played each other in Game 1 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs. The Raptors had the best record in the Eastern Conference this season, so the game was in Toronto, which meant that Drake was seated courtside as is customary. Drake is not an unobtrusive viewer at Raptors games; in the team’s first round series against the Washington Wizards, he trash talked Wizards players John Wall and Kelly Oubre, getting caught on TV calling the latter a “bum.” It’s all fun and games, and the players probably like the attention paid to them by the most famous rapper in the world, but last night Drake got caught up in a situation that could have been far more perilous.

During halftime, as the teams were walking off the court, the Cavs crossed paths with Drake, who started to get into it with a man named Kendrick Perkins. Here is some video and commentary of the event courtesy of Kevin Garnett and TNT:

In that clip, ex-NBA player Avery Johnson jokes about whether it was “God’s plan” for Drake to get into a fight with Kendrick Perkins, and, frankly, it’s a great question. Perkins is listed 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds, and he grew up in a town in East Texas named Nederland. Drake has bulked up over the years, but he is… not 6-foot-10, let’s just put it that way.

But Drake was undeterred! After the game—perhaps with tempers running high after the Raptors lost in overtime—the two continued to go at it, with Drake reportedly calling Perkins a “fucking pussy” and saying “I’m here in real life.”

Drake, please reconsider. We’ve already lost one rapper this year. We need your head in the game.
