Former teen queens and freshly reinvented pop sister act Aly & AJ have released “I Know,” the follow-up to September’s fantastic, flirty comeback single “Take Me.” The new song is cool and soothing, with satiny echoes and ’80s-inspired synths reminiscent of M83. It’s the second track from the duo’s newly announced Ten Years EP, due out November 17. Ten Years indeed represents Aly & AJ’s first new music in 10 years, not counting a 2013 one-off single, “Hothouse,” released under the name 78violet.
While the Aly & AJ musical aesthetic has been updated, the sisters’ intentions seem wholesome as ever. “This song was written a few days after we found out an acquaintance from our past had lost his battle with cancer,” Aly & AJ said in a statement. “After seeing such an outcry of love & support from his close friends and family we decided to write something dedicated to friendship and the commitment we are all capable of giving when someone needs us most.” Listen below.
